Solberg Business Partner To Mayor Shamey: The Solbergs Will Spend As Much As Necessary To Take Over The Township Committee

As a part of his presentation April 3rd on Solberg Airport, Mayor Gerry Shamey played a recording of his conversation with Solberg business partner, attorney, and real estate developer Larry Berger, in which Berger threatened that the Solbergs "would spend as much as necessary" to gain control of the Township Committee.

Berger's company, U.S. Land Resources L.P., is listed as the Incorporator for Thor Solberg Industrial Park Ltd. Larry Berger is listed as Agent. Although the charter for the business is listed as "revoked" by the State of New Jersey for not filing an annual report for more than 2 years (and thus disclosing finances), the revoked status can quickly be rescinded by filing necessary updates.

According to township officials, Berger was the principal negotiator for the Solbergs in six negotiations sessions with the Township Committee in 2005 over the future of the airport.

According to the transcript of the conversation, Berger told Shamey "…the Solberg's are going to be using their money to fight the committee and the primary and ultimately the election…"

When Shamey asked Berger "What would be their (the Solbergs') ultimate goal in taking over the township committee?" Berger responded: "Keeping the airport."

During the conversation, Berger indicated that the Solbergs were unwilling to compromise "much" from their desire to expand to a 5,000 foot runway.

Later in the conversation, Berger said "It's just, cause in the end, if the Solberg's threw enough money at this damn thing, they…"

Gerard Shamey: "They'll get what they want, is what you're saying."

    Lawrence Berger: "They will."
